Highway 85 North

These sets are mainly from 10/1994, the day after the freeway opened, 4/10/2007, and July 2007. This is by Great Oaks Ave. For a while, 85 South had to exit here, and 85 North started here. I think it was that way from 1992 until 8/17/1994.
The southernmost stretch (by Bernal and US101) was opened in August 1994 before the Almaden to Stevens Creek stretch opened.
This temporarily dumped a very large traffic load on 87.

The speed limit is no longer 55, it has been 65 since early 1996.

This set is of more recent photos and the middle of this set is from the day after Highway 85 opened in October 1994.
This is taken between Great Oaks and Cottle. This part was open in 1992. In 2008 I saw a sign naming this the "Norman Mineta Freeway."

This is the only photo I have of 85 from 5/4/2006. It was a pretty spring day.
