I270 South in Maryland
These first three are courtesy Brian from 6/8/2009.
This was taken in the three o'clock hour, but the traffic buildup
heading northward is already getting heavy. This road is a nightmare
later in the afternoon.
This sign tells motorists that there are 4 miles until Route 109, 17
miles until Rockville and 36 miles until Washington. And while
Washington is used as the control city for I270 south, the road itself
never enters it.
Exit 18 is for 121.

The rest of these are all courtesy of Brian from July 2007.
This is getting onto I270 from Middlebrook road. You can only
get on it southbound from here, you have go to Route 118, about a mile
get on northbound.
Getting onto I270.
Just south of Middlebrook road.
Approaching the exit for Route 124.
Exit 9 is I370. Unlike most 3-digit interstates, I370 does not touch
its parent route.
Note the "access" lanes beginning on the far right in this photo. This
is where I270 becomes a 12-lane highway. The lane of the far left is an
HOV lane, while the two in the middle say "express lanes" and
Exit 6, Route 128.
The sign in the middle provides the distances to I-495, Northern
Virginia, and Washington. Note that I270 doesn't actually go into
does I495 for that matter, despite that the control city for I270 south
This is where I270 divides. The part that says "To I-495 East" is
labeled as "I270", while the part that says "To I495 South" is labeled
SPUR." Note that the HOV lane has its own "split" that is separate from
of the freeway.
This is at the actual split. Note the HOV2 lane to the left. That
actually has a split of its own, as you can see in this photo. These
last three are from July 2008.
This part of I270 is really short.
This is right around the end.
