US23 North in Michigan
This route is a freeway briefly after it splits from I75. It is a
proposed
freeway all the way up to I75 near Mackinaw. US23 roughly follows
the shore of Lake Huron up to Mackinaw City. It is a scenic route.
These are from Kevin Weed from August 2016. I have been out here
before.

In Oscoda the Au Sable River drains into Lake Huron.

This is five or so miles north of Oscoda. Every so often you'll get
views of
Lake Huron like this.

Welcome to Ossineke. What you see here is about all there is to it.
That
being said I've spent three vacations in this tiny little village
(include the
vacation in which I took these pics) as there are lots of rentable
cottages
and homes on the water in the Ossineke and Alpena areas.

23 runs through Squaw Bay here. Squaw Bay is a really marshy area which
is
actually an inlet from Lake Huron. From what I had heard there hadn't
been
water in Squaw Bay for the past 5-10 as Lake Huron water levels had
dropped,
however this year was the first summer in a long time in which it had a
significant amount of water in it.

I brightened this pic so as to make the sign on the right more
readable. It
marks the 45th Parallel. There are only 5 or so of these signs across
the
country and 3 of them are in Michigan. It cuts through squaw bay.

Downtown Alpena. Like most historic downtowns int his country this one
had
been in pretty rough shape for quite some time but they have really
done a
nice job putting money into the old buildings, having Ma and Pop shops
move in
and it really looks great nowadays.

Welcome to Mackinaw City or as it is often referred to it, "The Tip O
The
Mitt". It's the last town in the lower peninsula before crossing the
bridge.
U.S. 23 ends when you get into town here right at the entrance ramp for
I-75
onto the bridge. Check out the I-75 pictures for those few pics.
